Roadtrip - Champagne Making tours, Verzy & Baroville Our 1st champagne tour was in French mainly so I didn't fully understand the details or the terminologies. We did another one in Baroville and our guide conducted the tour in English, kind of filling in the blanks and gaps for me. It answered our question when we saw the 1st vineyard on the road. Line, our guide, said that the French government had a very strict rule to control the quality and quantity of grapes produced per hectare of land. So if it's a good year and farmers are allowed to pick only a certain quantity of grapes, the rest must be left on the vineyard, not even making juice from it. So in a good year, only very fine and good grapes will be picked and others are just there to feed to birds and us (hehe we stopped and Kevin got off to pick 2 strings and we tried some fresh pinot noir).
